CAT 125 is a class designed to explore the self. What is the self? Why is the self important? How does one market themselves? Life often requires selling aspects of yourself (lets hope not in booty shorts on the street corner) to one person or another. Applying for graduate school or a competitive job are a couple examples of instances in which candidates market their attributes to others.

One of the lovely assignments our dear professor made available was this thing called a “picturing autobiography”. What is this? Well its just what it sounds like, an auto/biography about oneself. The prompt is as follows, “produce a curated assemblage of 10 to 20 images that narrate a significant moment from your life.” Seems vague, no? Well that’s because it is. This assignment was intended to aid individuals in selection of attributes and personal experiences that he or she believes valuable. Furthermore, one should speculate on the evolution of their identity, catalyzed by the “significant moment” in ones life.

For my assignment I chose to explore my experiences revolving around skateboarding; more specifically the injuries I’ve sustained from the sport. I’ve been skateboarding for coming on ten years now. Needless to say it has had a major impact on the person I am today. For my autobiography I wanted readers to understand what kind of impact skateboarding, more specifically skating related injuries, has had on my identity. In short, my skating experiences have given me practice in perseverance. Regardless of how badly injured I ever became, I continued to step on the board and ride on. Now that’s an accomplishment if I do say so myself.
